His Highness Emir of the state of Qatar issued a law for domestic workers

His Highness sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani the Emir of the state of Qatar has issued law No. 15 of 2017 concerning the domestic workers. The law stipulated that domestic workers’ jobs should be organized by contracts, they should not be less than 18 years or more than 60 years, they go through a probation period specified by an order from minister of labor, employers should provide suitable food, accommodation and health care, domestic workers should not work during their sick leave weekends or daily rest times, they should receive their agreed upon monthly pay, they should work to maximum 10 hours per day unless there’s other agreement, workers are entitled to paid annual leave for 3 weeks every calendar year. Workers are entitled to round-trip tickets after 2 years of service to travel to their countries. Employers are not permitted to use the service of domestic workers abroad without their consent, in the case of death employers have to bear the cost of sending the body to their home countries. Employers can dismiss domestic workers without prior alert in the case of violations, any one violates the law is punished by paying a fine ranging from 5,000 riyals to 10,000 riyals.
