The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and international football association FIFA have hailed the reforms introduced by Qatar to protect the human rights of migrant workers. 
Qatar’s efforts drew praise during a seminar held in Brussels by the European Parliament, which discussed the importance of respecting human rights standards and laws during the organisation of major sporting events. According to Qatar New Agency. 
“Qatar has made dramatic changes in recent years to ensure that the rights of all its employees, not only World Cup workers, are respected and highest standards of safety and security are provided during the construction of the 2022 World Cup stadiums,” said the representative of FIFA and ILO.
They also indicated to the  changes that include implementation of a new legislation that scrapped the need for exit permits for most employees in Qatar and reform of the sponsorship (kafala) laws. 
“The progress Qatar has made in these areas is already a model for development,” said Bett Andres, Chairperson of the ILO Working Party on Fundamental Principles and Rights.
“The ILO is present in Qatar to encourage the development of workers’ rights. After discussions that lasted several years and specifically in 2017 we have achieved an essential development with Qatar by signing an agreement that includes an inclusive programme of technical cooperation between ILO and Qatar.
Federico Adeishi, the head of the Sustainable Development and Diversity Division of FIFA, said, “In Qatar, has launched a reform programme to change labour laws.” And added that we have seen wonderful changes in the area of laws and there’s a feeling that these changes are continuous.” 
Qatar is the first country in the Middle East to win in 2010 the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the matches will be organized during 21 November to 18 December 2022.
