The State of Qatar has handed an official message to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) pertaining to the violations made by the countries imposing siege on Qatar through their satellite TV channels aiming to intimidate airline passengers. The State of Qatar's permanent office at the ICAO in Montreal, Canada handed the message to the ICAO Secretary-General, Board President and representatives of member states, pointing to the report broadcasted by Al Arabiya TV, a Saudi channel based in Dubai, UAE on August 9.
The report referred to what it called the right of the siege countries to shoot down any Qatar Airways passenger aircraft if it flew into their airspace. The message indicated that the televised report constitutes a clear and serious violation of international treaties and conventions, particularly the 1944 Chicago Convention, the International Air Service Agreements and International Air Law.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications explained in a statement issued on Friday 18/8 that the state of Qatar has demanded taking the necessary steps to remind all States in the Organization of their obligation towards the security and safety of aviation under international law as well as ethics.
